Hi, my name is Mary and recently I’ve found out that I am a relative of Elizabeth Woolcock, a prisoner from the Old Adelaide Gaol who was accused of poisoning her husband, miner Thomas Woolcock in the 1800’s.
There is a letter found in the prison that talks about the tragic loss of her family and the way she was mistreated by her husband. A number of people believe that Elizabeth was innocent and a number of locals came forward stating that they were experiencing symptoms of mercury poisoning similar to Thomas Woolcock, to support her innocence.
I no longer live in South Australia so I am unable to visit the Gaol and that’s why I need your help! I want to find out what life was like for Elizabeth in prison in order to learn more about her. I can’t wait to see what you find out!
